Bismarck/Tirpitz Arado Ar196s

New skins uploaded to M4T:

Arado Ar-196A-3 of Bordflieger Gruppe 196

Aircraft served aboard Bismarck and Tirpitz. 3 skins. Searched hi and low for skins of these Arados and couldn't find any anywhere so I made my own off the great Ar196 template by Hynkel. Check it out.

Ruthless

I was walking on the south downs (hills) of southern England a few weeks back when i came across this lonely memorial right out in the middle of nowhere above the town of Eastbourne in Sussex.
Its dedicated to the crew of Ruthless, a B-24D Liberator bomber, it was one of those soul stirring moments that caught me completely off guard and played on my mind for the rest of the day.

LLTM Rocks!

I personally think there is nothing like the LLTM.

Perfect atmosphere, perfect location, lots of pilots and visitors.
Get an impression from youtube:
www.youtube.com/user/L...dTigerMeet

if that doesn't work, click here:
www.lowlandtigermeet.com

Over at the specialized downloads the LLTM pilot skills missions have been uploaded, including briefings and skinpack.
The IL-2 section was well represented in Ahaus, Germany where we had the 3 day event which includes Falcon4AF, LockOn flaming cliffs and IL-2: 1946.
We had 15 teams participating in the pilot skills competition. That's what the pack is about. The dogfight competition was fought as well, with some very exiting matches of "best of 3" duels in both 1 vs 1 and 2 vs 2 setting.

Great! Can't wait till next year!

Hope to see you again next year tigers!

Use Mouse instead of Joystick -- With Easy Mouselook!

Mostly copying the ideas of a Russian IL-2 pilot who calls himself -SCS-UHU, I have developed a method for easily flying AND mouselooking WITH MOUSE & KEYBOARD ONLY. It works so well that it allows even a mere "advanced beginner" like myself to get a lot of enjoyment out of IL-2.

THIS IS NOT A MOD. It does not change game code, it only changes .ini files and uses public-domain 3rd party utilities.

Why would I want to do this? First, I need to be mobile and play IL2 at pc-cafes, friend's places, at work on the sly, etc. and I don't want to have to carry around a joystick all the time. It's impossible for me to play IL2 at home, for reasons which I won't go into. Second, I'm an all-or-nothing guy; it's either the complete Saitek joystick-throttle-rudder pedals combo or nothing. Believe me, I've tried and I appreciate such fine equipment, and rudder pedals are particularly satisfying to use; but it's out of the question for me unfortunately.

Finally, I'm used to using mouse and keyboard to fly the helicopters in Battlefield 2. If any of you have ever tried the helicopters in BF2 you know how difficult they are to fly -- I mean, to fly well enough to be considered even a MINIMALLY useful pilot. After all the BF2 heli training, I found it relatively easy to jump right into IL-2 (as a beginner of course) with my mouse-and-keyboard setup once I'd worked it out. After some practice I am able to take off, fly around, engage in combat, and crash-land, all at Realistic settings. (I did manage to land the IL-2 itself without damage the other day though.)

Check out my YouTube videos showing me using this setup. The first one actually shows my hands on the mouse and keyboard, and the second is in-game with narration:

Joymouse IL 2 Demo - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7msy3qMyPfI
Joymouse - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pL3GQOb2X9U

Try these tinyURLs to download these .flv (Flash Video) movies directly to your hard drive -- they will arrive in .flv (Flash Video) format -- if you can't play them, download VLC player from www.videolan.org :

Joymouse IL 2 Demo - http://tinyurl.com/cz6hpe
Joymouse - http://tinyurl.com/cjp5kb

I have uploaded a complete guide to my setup, plus all the public-domain software you'll need, to the Downloads section on http://www.mission4today.com -- so please check it out. The ZIP file is called Mouse_As_Joystick_Files_&_Guide.

-SCS-UHU, the Russian, is a much better pilot than me, and you can see him in action (with mouse) in his own YouTube videos. See his YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/alekslapine
(He uses TrackIR to look around, but flies with the mouse. My setup toggles mouselook with a quick and easy key combo.)

2009 IL-2 Calendar

Jolec has given us a wonderful gift, just in time for Christmas, a 2009 calendar illustrated with screenshots from the game. It's in a .pdf format so it can be printed out for hanging on your wall. Printed on heavy stock it would be a great gift for your aviation buff friends and an great way to show off the excellent graphics of our beloved sim.
Jolec included a message in French that I have roughly, (very roughly) translated:
With the Holidays quicly approaching, I offer a calendar which I hope you will enjoy througout the year. I wish you a Merry Christmas and an excellent 2009
Jolec
You can download the calendar here

Airwarfare.com: What's occuring?

Airwarfare.com (AW.c) was originally a multi-sim website, up to 2006 it was host for all the IL-2 material that is now here at M4T.

AW.c has been somewhat undernourished as far as updates go and plans are currently underway to totally revamp it.
