I am looking for a program that stops the 'background programs', so that the computer can concentrate only on the game itself while flying.

Does anyone have any sugestions?

Thankyou

As a suggestion, how about checking the knowledge base?

Setup Guide: How to increase the memory available to IL-2?

This is for off-line, but can easily be changed for on-line. Of course, there
is also payware that will do pretty much the same thing (for a fee). If you
ARE looking for on-line, you should not disable your virus-checker (and I
hope you have one). But this is the single biggest resource hog as it needs
to read and vet every single file you access.

I use this one as well, and EndItAll.

Good advice - Don turn off your firewall either. Instead make a rule to let port 21000 UDP through in both directions to il2fb.exe.

How much resources a virus checker or firewall needs is highly dependent on the product.

McAfee is a known resource hog, so are old versions of Norton.

Probably the fastest and safest is NOD32 AV from www.eset.com

Most users will need no more than their router firewall.

There are several free firewalls and AV packages available from www.filehippo.com

Make sure your firewall and AV are up during installation of new software, and be carefull what you install. If there is any doubt, make a restore point before starting the install so you have an easy way to revert to the old situation.
