I've not finished posting in all these sections yet, there are still more pics to come. Just to clarify, I only post interesting eye-candy pics wherever possible rather than the standard straight shots which are already all over the net.
I've computer-enhanced most of my pics with the Irfanview imaging program to make them larger/ brighter/ darker/ sharper etc, but some originals are so bad that no amount of enhancing can make them much better.
So rest assured that if a pic is small, grainy and boring I won't post it unless it's especially interesting..:)

That's a lot of wonderful shots, where did you get all of those from so many countries involved in the war ??
Already seen from close to all your gallery from all countries you posted...
To think the Germans and even the western Allies had no idea the Soviets already had plenty of modern planes of their own even before the Germans attacked them but the Soviets had been so secretive that nobody even knew their very existence, either already starting to equip new squadrons or on the assembly lines in Soviet Factories, the western Allies only found out about them when they got some pictures the Germans themselves had taken for possibly propaganda purposes or even military intelligence...
Must've been a shock for the Germans to run into new enemy planes so often on the eastern front, and each time getting better and better, not to mention running into western planes at times...
When German Fighter Pilots reported to their commanding officers they had run into a bunch of Spitfires, the commanding officer didn't believed them at first...

Thanks! A couple of questions if anyone has answers....
What is that on the side of the Po-2? It looks like some sort of carrier. in fact it almost looks like some kind of medivac system.
Any translations on the scripts, especially on the LaGG-3?
PoorOldSpike, these photos (in this and the other categories) are real gems!

Looks more like something to carry bombs or something, I think I heard that before the war, the PO-2 was used to carry pesticides on agricultural purposes or something, not sure though,
I don't think they really used this for flying a wounded out of a battlefield, Stalin didn't cared about what happened to his troops, and neither did about his military commanders, well maybe except those like Zhukov or Rokkosovsky ( Spell ?? ) , those who were wounded if still alive after the fight would usually stand a good chance at getting amputated and return home...
Maybe a camera for propaganda or recon jobs ??
But, with the translation on the LaGG-3, got me, perhaps "Long Live Stalin !!" or something ??

The caption is - "Casevac by Po-2"
The word 'casevac' is short for 'casualty evacuation'.
They're putting a wounded man (in sleeping bag) into a casevac container on the wing, to fly him to hospital.
And the containers could also be used to transport supplies.
Here's a model kit with the containers (pods)
