I drive a Magnum!
I split my monikers up, since most of the nicks are two words anyhow i.e. Teargas 'Teargas Horse' Horse. I use any name for anywhere, nationalities are of little or no importance:
Teargas Horse
Eyebrow Spider
Meat Hardpack
Lance Longshaft
Neck Mucus
Bucket Shark
Dorito Liger
some of these are also the callsigns of my airsoft buddies, although they are all made up and bestowed by me except for Bucket Shark which was taken from a talk show discussion spoken by Mrs Osbourne, and it was a thing not a name.

I usually have two careers going at the same time, a main career, and a back-up for when I run into a difficult patch in the main campaign. Using different pilot names makes it easy to choose a career at a glance, and it minimizes the chances of accidentally deleting a campaign or career. Not that I haven't done that a couple of times.... |
By "difficult patch," I refer not to any troublesome software, but rather to the sort of jarring, no-apparent-win mission that crops up now and then, one in which all enemy fighters seem to be ace-rated and particularly aggressive. In other words, a mission which requires extra thought and planning.
And, yes, over the years I have twice accidentally deleted careers in which I'd flown almost 100 of 200-250 missions.

I don't really play singleplayer anymore, other than testing maneuvers etc. so usually I just use the default "Janosch" handle.
ANYWAY - here are some names I've used in singleplayer campaigns. I manually edited all the relevant files, so all careers were under the same pilot name/account, but with different details (you have to be careful) etc. and namely portraits. Yes, there are instructions on how to change the default portrait.
USSR, fighter pilot: Julia Ogerava
USSR, ground attack: Macka Domaca (I know it's not Russian). Google it!
US Navy: Carlton Banks
Luftwaffe, Me-163B: Katja Bechtel
Japan: Fuuka Ayase, Ran Yakumo
I double dare you, més amis, to find out what I meant: i44.tinypic.com/156pkzb.jpg
In honour of the pilot career that is left unfinished forever, the best name, the best portrait, the best everything, the best.
