It's the Winter of 1945 and you are German Nightfighter pilot, member of "Kommando Welter", a special unit flying the two-seater Me-262B1 in defense of the battered capital of the Reich, Berlin.
This semi-historical, 7-mission static mini-campaign is set in the last months of the Third Reich. “Kommando Welter” was initially formed in November 1944 in Burg bei Magdeburg as Kommando Stamp, flying the Me 262, as an experimental nightfighter unit, but was soon renamed “Kommando Welter” – after its commander, Oberleutnant Kurt Welter. (The unit was redesignated 10./NJG 11 on 28 January 1945, but the old name was still used by the units members.)
The Me-262's of Kommando Welter was used mainly for hunting those fast Mosquitos that the Luftwaffe had so big problems catching.
The British crews soon knew that the Germans had something that could catch the Mosquitos, even with the speed advantage that had been its defense since it first appeared over Europe in 1942. But no one thought it possible that a jet could be flown at night, or that a fighter without radar could accomplish such things. But Kommando Welter proved them wrong.
You will also fly one daytime mission, using the Me 262A.
This campaign uses CY6's revolutionary C&C Mod, which for the first time makes it possible to simulate REAL WW2 nightfighting tactics!
This means that a successful intercept depends on you following the directions from the Ground Control and from your Radar Operator. Just following the way-points on the map will NOT be enough. Once you get home you will be guided by the airfield lights, by a Lorenz Blind Approach System PLUS a signal flare!
REQUIREMENTS: If you have DBW ("Dark Blue World") 1.71 + the Nachtjagd Mod Pack you have all you need to run this campaign.
With the campaign comes 4 skins, made by Max the Hitman and Flugfarbe. Thanks guys for your effort!
A big and very special THANKS goes of course to GJE52, who built the Me-262B1. Super job!
I have made a complete overhaul of the campaign, mainly by taking full use of the Command & Control Mod, which also made the whole campaign more FPS-friendly. Plus that a daytime mission has been added.
Trouble with your FPS? Yes, flying over the Berlin map can be tough on your computer, especially if it's an old one. The map uses an enormous amount of objects. You could always try and download and install VP_medias GREAT new version of this old stock map, a rebuild that gives you SO much better FPS. See here: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,49139.0.html
The additional 4.12 objects needed for this new map version can be found here: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,49139.msg542840.html#msg542840
Version 1.0 Posted February 20, 2011.
Version 2.0 Added CY6's revolutionary C&C mod.
Version 3.0 Big overhaul, with a number of new nightfighting fuctions added, Lorenz Blind Approach device, flares etc. Non-historical aircraft removed. Also added one daytime mission.
If you have any questions, JUST PM ME! Don't use the ratings system for that!
The updated version of this campaign is just SUPER! The original was a bit lame, but now with radar but no skin-hacks etc it's just a completely new campaign. Nightfighting this way is a new experience, believe me.
Please write in the description of your campaign, some infos regarding the Me262 Nightfighter Mod you were using for this campaign:
1) which one did you use ?
2) where to get it
3) additional infos
This would be very helpful.
